#52: Jason Hoard on Bluegrass, Brokenness, and Blooming where You are Planted

New Episode: Finding God’s Rhythm with Jason Hoard

On this episode of the STEP INTO THE STORY PODCAST, Phil Tuttle sits down with Jason Hoard—bluegrass musician, producer, and studio owner. Together, they dive into the high-energy world of touring, the precision of the studio, and the unexpected ways God uses “problems” to orchestrate His perfect plan.

From Bluegrass Roots to a Radical Conversion

Jason Hoard and Phil Tuttle

Jason reflects on his unique upbringing in a family bluegrass band. He shares the remarkable story of how his father—though not yet a believer—built a stage for him before he even knew he needed one.

Everything changed when a literal broken finger suffered by another musician forced a 13-year-old Jason into his first worship-leading role. It was a night that resulted in his father’s radical conversion and changed the trajectory of their entire family forever.

Jason also opens up about the realities of the music industry—from the massive highs of playing for 95,000 people on a beach in Brazil with Third Day, to the “dark room” moments of injury.

He shares a vulnerable account of a hand injury that threatened his career, only to realize it was God’s way of calling him to “bloom where he was planted.” Through this trial, he found a new calling: helping young artists find their own voice and rhythm through his studio.

“It’s an honest, upbeat, and deeply encouraging conversation for anyone feeling stuck in a ‘valley’ season, struggling with a change in plans, or looking for the courage to trust God with their next note.”

It’s a heartfelt conversation you won’t want to miss.
