#44: Ron Klassen on Planting & Strengthening Churches in Small Towns
On this episode of STEP INTO THE STORY, Phil explores Ron and Roxy Klassen’s journey of pouring into small town churches in America through preaching, encouraging, and equipping pastors.
Ron shares multiple stories of what it meant to adjust to this different culture of the small, isolated, American town during his time preaching in Brewster, Nebraska. His efforts included buying cowboy boots and wrestling calves for the first time.
Ron reflects: “We found that there were many communities that were void of a Bible-teaching church, and God just laid that burden on our hearts.” Later, Ron moved from pastoring in Brewster to leading the missionary organization at Rural Home Missionary Association (RMHA) — ministering to thousands of town and country churches and pastors.
Ron is now director emeritus of RHMA. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Dallas Theological Seminary, teaching master’s and doctoral classes for present and future rural and small-town pastors. He is the author of Maximize! Leveraging the Strengths of Your Small Church.
